11 Great 40 Dollar Investments

When you save money all the time you eventually have some money saved up.  So what do people do with all of that money.  I honestly believe that most people lose track of it unless they have a specific plan and set their money aside immediately.  Now on the other hand, what do you do with the next $40 dollars you save?  Do you spend it on something else, put it in the bank, or just waste it buying drinks on the town.  Here are some great things you can do with 40 dollars and they are not all about putting it into savings.

Put it into saving for a specific item. Just like when you were a kid, put a picture of what you want on a jar and put your money in there.  When you get enough money saved up, you can go buy the thing you want and feel great about it all at the same time.

Invest in your relationship.  Go on a $40 date night, or get your spouse a fun random gift.  You have to continually invest in your relationships and this really is a good use of your money.

Buy gifts in advance. Birthdays, Anniversaries, and Christmas are the same time every year so why not buy the gifts as the year goes on so when the occasion comes around you don’t have to think or do anything because it’s already set up.

Put it back in your pocket. Just because you have money to spend doesn’t mean that you have to spend it.  Sometimes I just enjoy having the money and the ability to get something if I need it.

Go try something new. There are a lot of fun activities that you can go try for $40 dollars or less.  For example:  Recreational sport leagues, karate classes, pottery classes, go to a museum, go fishing, scrap booking, ice skating, or go fishing.

Pay off a credit card. You can make huge jumps in paying off your debt when you work hard to pay off as much as you can.  This significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to pay things off.

Get some maintenance done. Things have to get fixed because they will break.  So why not set a little aside to cover normal repairs.  It’s great to have money saved up for this, because it’s a hard pill to swallow when you have $500 worth of car problems that have to be fixed and you don’t have any money set up for it.

Interior Decorating. You can use the money you save to fix up your house or apartment and eventually get matching furniture instead of the junk you collected in college.  Well at least I’m still working on this one and it could take me a while.

Invest in your hobby. A great idea is to get a hobby that pays for itself.  Let’s say that you like making writing pens, go sell some of them so that you can cover your costs.  Are you a collector?  Go make some trades or use the money to increase your collection.

Build an emergency fund. With all the people that have gotten laid off in the last couple years and a high rate of unemployment, I don’t need to tell you how important this is.  There are people who have been forced into extremely difficult times.  Having an emergency fund can take a lot of the crisis out of losing your job.

Save for Retirement. This is investing in yourself and your future.  Your going to either retire someday or not be able to work anymore and a $40 dollar investment each month over 30 years will make a HUGE impact on what your savings will look like and what your financial position will be in the future.

Don’t think that $40 won’t make much of a difference.  Depending on how you choose to use your money can make a huge difference in your life and your future so go make good decisions.
